2018 Available Instructor Scholarships

Over twenty-five (25) AMT instructor are expected to be awarded in 2018. Funds provided to make these scholarships possible are provided by three (3) very generous aviation-related firms … and by numerous financial supporters of Northrop Rice Foundation. The available scholarships are described below. An instructor may not apply for a scholarship previously won by the instructor. The award process is administered by the Northrop Rice Foundation and the award recipients are selected by the NRF Board of Directors.

Airbus Helicopters Maintenance Training Scholarship

Airbus Helicopters annually donates one scholarship to an AMT instructor to attend a two-week Airbus Helicopters Airframe Field Maintenance Course at the company’s training facility if Grand Prairie, TX; available courses are listed on the Airbus Helicopters website. The scholarship is valued at $5,140.

BOEING FLIGHT SERVICES 787 General Familiarization Course Scholarship

Boeing Flight Services is expected to once again provide 24 scholarships for AMT instructors to attend a one-week 787 General Familiarization course at the company’s training facility in Renton, WA, most likely held June 25-29, 2018. This course is designed to satisfy the ATA 104 Level I objectives describing basic aircraft measurements and attributes, normal system functions, and major components; a Boeing factory tour in included as is transportation to and from the factory. The course content relates to what AMT educators are teaching their students, so instructors will be able to use what they learn to further inspire students. A tour of the Boeing factory—including transportation to and from the factory—is included in the program. Course objectives include but are not limited to:
  • Recall the safety precautions to be observed when working in and around the 787 aircraft
  • Identify major components of 787 aircraft systems
  • Explain the normal function and operating characteristics of 787 aircraft systems
  • Locate major components of aircraft systems
Each of the 24 scholarships is valued at $1,230. Travel arrangements and expenses, including meals, are the responsibility of each scholarship recipient. The award process is administered by the Northrop Rice Foundation and the award recipient is selected based on merit by the NRF Board of Directors.

AVOTEK’s Dale Hurst Memorial Scholarship

Avotek, LLC annually funds the Dale Hurst Memorial Scholarship which provides transportation and per diem funds for an AMT instructor to attend a one- to three-day airline, manufacturer, vendor or other industry aviation maintenance workshop, seminar, or training course. The scholarship typically covers travel costs up to $1,500. Travel funds approved prior to the course are paid following receipt of actual travel expense documentation, successful completion documentation from the course provider, and a brief report about the training that can be published by Avotek and/or the Northrop Rice Foundation.

NORTHROP RICE FOUNDATION Aviation Scholarships for Instructors

The Northrop Rice Foundation annually offers aviation scholarships for instructors to attend a one- to three-day airline, manufacturer, vendor or other industry aviation maintenance workshop, seminar, or training course. The scholarship typically covers travel costs of between $800 and $1,200. Travel funds approved prior to the course are paid following receipt of actual travel expense documentation, successful completion documentation from the course provider, and a brief report about the training that can be published by the Northrop Rice Foundation.
