The Northrop Rice Foundation was established in 1994, and its major focus since then has been 1) obtaining financial and physical contributions from aviation-related organizations, and 2) annually receiving and processing applications—using an adjudication process that assured fairness—to select aviation maintenance technician student, instructor, veteran, and school recipients of the contributions provided to the Foundation.

This portion of the Northrop Rice Foundation focus ended with the selection of 46 2019 recipients of scholarships and awards totaling $63,703.  Although no longer managing this larger scholarships and awards program, the Foundation is continuing other avenues of support to the aviation maintenance industry including the annual awarding of the Jim and Alice Rice Memorial Scholarship(s) which will be awarded year-to-year to support one or more aviation maintenance technician students.
